Over 2000 cyclists are expected to ride one of the various routes each day. Hams are needed for rest stops, SAG vehicles, supply truck communications, event official shadows and start/finish line communications.
Two meters is typically the mode of communication. HTs have limited useage, the most reliable communication in this area is with a min. 25 watt mobile radio and a very good mobile antenna. The outlying rest stops will need at least a 25 watt mobile rig, battery power supply and a good external antenna on a mast.
You may volunteer for either Sat. or Sun. or both. Most of the accomodations in the immediate area are already booked up, but you can try calling the hotels directly to determine room availability. Camping is available at the starting line and in some nearby camping facilities.
Volunteering for this event is different than normal.
